about

I was afraid and exhausted while writing these, but mostly exhausted.

If LICHENS was a caricature of the pandemic silenced streets then this tape is a narrow transmission about the shadows of violence and the noise to follow.

We returned from being brutalized at two in the morning and struggled to sleep. I wrote for the hour or so that I could focus and then I went back to work, went out that night again to keep fighting and always expecting to be killed some night or another.

I wrote the first track of this in August (Lymph) trying still to find the remnants of something beautiful among the terror. I arranged the final piece in January (Wire Snare, etc.) and the world was not different. I now believe our best humanity is how we oppose the evil in our midst, whether or not it can be totally overcome.

To see the world as it is and to meet that on its own terms is the most decent task I can imagine. Such as water turns the stone into particles, we will be victorious in time. These recordings are a fragmented diary out of the fear and weariness I felt across the second half of this last year.

They are disparate and struggling because that is how I was.
"one must imagine Sisyphus happy."
